Lead & Lead-Free Wire

L15

Hareline

Lead & lead-free wire are effective materials for adding weight to your flies, causing them to sink at a faster rate. This high quality wire is round and comes on a standard fly tying spool for easy use.

  • Lead wire is heavier, but may cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm if ingested. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Lead-free wire is made from a non-toxic heavy alloy and is roughly 60% the density of standard lead wire.

Density copper (Cu)
8.96 gram/cm3 at 20 °C (68 °F)

Density leadfree wire
Approxemitely 60% of lead which gives

Best way to weigh down a fly

I've been using these lead spools for a long time. The lead is round so it makes it super easy to wrap around the hook shank and it sinks my flies fast. Awesome stuff and at a great price!

Best Lead Wire Spools Around!

A great way to add weight to any fly. The lead part isn't so great but it's lead, and until tungsten becomes this cheap I think it will continue to dominate. Just remember to wash your hands and coat the stuff with head cement. Nice having them on a spool to dispense easily as well!

Essential Material For Every Fly Tyer

These wire spools get a lot of use at the bench. I keep a variety of diameters handy depending on how fast I need my flies to sink. Every fly tyer needs a set of these.
